Urban/Associate Planner

Job Description

Join CSG Consultants as an Urban/Associate Planner, responsible for performing planning duties related to land use regulations, environmental review, and design review. The role involves working under senior staff, with opportunities to specialize in current planning, long-range planning, architectural review, transportation planning, or GIS mapping.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior staff with subdivision and land use regulations.
  • Conduct professional work in current or advanced planning, zoning, and design review.
  • Advise applicants on land use review applications and processes.
  • Review planning project and permit applications for compliance with codes and standards.
  • Conduct site inspections and field investigations.
  • Support the Permit Center and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Maintain planning data using software programs.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and graphic exhibits.
  • Represent the municipality/Planning Division at meetings and committees.
  • Manage complex planning applications and prepare reports for various city bodies.

Qualifications:

  • Required: 2 years of professional city/urban planning experience and a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in planning (can substitute for one year of experience).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Principles and practices of planning and zoning.
  • Environmental protection regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA).
  • State and local land use laws.
  • Effective customer service and report writing.
  • Common computer applications and GIS.

Abilities:

  • Review and apply policy and code provisions.
  • Interpret General Plan, zoning ordinances, and other documents.
  • Conduct research, data analysis, and prepare reports.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and decision-makers.
  • Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions: General office environment with potential remote work. Ability to travel to client job sites.

Pay and Benefits: Compensation: $35.00 to $52.00 per hour (varies based on skills, experience, and location).
